The ground features a mix of open valleys, wooded sections, and natural ridges, giving each drive a unique character and keeping the sport varied and engaging. Greenhow is a small village in the Yorkshire Dales. By car, it’s easiest via Pateley Bridge from Leeds, Harrogate, or Skipton, though the final roads are narrow and steep. There’s no direct public transport; the nearest train stations are Harrogate, Ripon, or Skipton, with a taxi or bus needed to reach the village.
Teams usually meet at either a local pub or at the bothy, where they enjoy a coffee, draw their pegs, and set off for the day. Days typically consist of four or five drives, with the option to stop for lunch earlier in the season if preferred.
