Gloucestershire, England

This privately run estate is one of the great shoots of Gloucestershire. Situated close to the world-famous market town of Moreton-in-Marsh, a two-hour drive from central London, the estate extends to several thousand acres.

The estate releases a number of partridges and pheasants, so days are normally for mixed bags with up to eight or nine guns in the line. The estate has numerous drives which adds great variety to a day so you can be shooting in woodland on one drive and then follow this up by standing out in the open where birds are driven high from well planted game cover.

If you would like to shoot on one of the most beautiful estates in this part of the world where you really are treated like royalty, then there is no better place than Northwick.

The main house at Northwick is Upton Wold which is all that remains of the village of Upton, which was wiped out in the Black Death.

Heading to Moreton-in-Marsh via the Fosse Way, then out towards Broadway. The estate lies just a few miles out of Moreton.

Pheasant & Partridge

late September until mid January.

We meet typically in the morning at Upton Wold House where the resident butler serves tea and coffee. After drawings for pegs we head off to the first drive. We tend to shoot three of four drives in the morning having stopped for elevenses after the second drive. You return to the pool house for a delicious lunch, which is with a full butler service—no stone is left unturned.

Accommodation is available locally in some award winning pubs and hotels, including Lower Slaughter Manor, Dormy House and the iconic Lygon Arms.
