The 5,000-acre Holylee Estate, nestled between Walkerburn and Selkirk in the heart of the Scottish Borders, boasts the perfect topography for exceptional driven shooting. Rolling hills, steep valleys and dramatic wooded gorges combine to create challenging yet rewarding sport, where high pheasants and fast-flying partridges are presented with skill and precision by head keeper Graham White and his experienced team. Every drive makes full use of the estate's natural contours, ensuring exciting, varied birds that test even accomplished Guns while remaining enjoyable for those with less experience.
With an impressive selection of 30 to 35 named drives, including the renowned signature drive, Y Wood, Holylee offers outstanding variety throughout the season. No two days are ever quite the same, with drives carefully selected to suit weather conditions, wind direction and the abilities of each party. Whether seeking exhilarating high birds or a balanced day's sport, visitors can expect a memorable experience.
Yet it is the breath-taking landscape that leaves the greatest impression. Spectacular views stretch across the surrounding Borders countryside, providing a stunning backdrop to every drive. "This is unquestionably a beautiful part of the country," says White, "which keeps our parties coming back year after year".
Unlike the Highlands, the Borders is characterised by gentle hills, forests, rivers and picturesque valleys, making it a paradise for shooting.
Drive from Edinburgh via the A7 through Galashiels, then follow local roads to Holylee Estate, taking approximately 55 minutes, depending on traffic.
Usually teams will be collected from their accommodation from the evening before we will drive directly to the first drive to draw and meet loaders. We will shoot 4 drives and stop for lunch or shoot through depending on the time of year. Lunch will be taken in one of the bothys on the hill.
