Devon

Berry Pomeroy Castle, nestled in the Devon countryside, is a picturesque yet eerie ruin with a rich history and a reputation for being one of England’s most haunted sites. Built in the late 15th century by the Pomeroy family, it was later acquired by the Seymours, who planned grand expansions but abandoned it in the 17th century. Today, its ivy-clad walls and towering remains evoke a sense of mystery and legend.

Visitors are drawn to its ghostly tales, including the infamous "White Lady" and "Blue Lady," said to haunt the ruins. Managed by English Heritage, the castle offers a fascinating glimpse into medieval and Tudor history, surrounded by stunning woodland walks and breath-taking Devonshire landscapes which makes for a wonderful traditional driven shoot.

The morning consists of well-planned drives across the estate’s stunning Devon countryside, with pheasants and partridges providing exciting sport making the best of the steep topography. A break for lunch offers delicious local cuisine, often in the traditional shoot lodge or scenic outdoor setting if the weather is fair. The afternoon features additional drives, ensuring a fulfilling experience. The day concludes with tea, drinks, and a chance to reflect on the shoot’s highlights with fellow guns.

Devon and the areas close by to Totnes and Torquay have some wonderful hotels and pubs to cater for shooting parties, we also have some private houses including Ugbrooke.
