The Arden Beat on the Hawnby Estate is regarded as one of Yorkshire’s premier shooting experiences. Nestled within a series of deep, secluded valleys on the fringe of the North York Moors, the beat consistently delivers a superb variety of high-quality birds, presented naturally and progressively throughout the day.
Just a short 15-minute drive from the picturesque market town of Helmsley, the estate combines outstanding sport with the charm and hospitality for which this part of Yorkshire is renowned.
Each day on the Arden Beat is conducted in a traditional manner, with a strong emphasis on exclusivity, attention to detail and first-class hospitality. The estate team takes great pride in ensuring that every aspect of the day runs seamlessly, creating a memorable experience both in the field and at the table.
The renowned drives of Springwood, Big Fairy, Little Fairy, Ruecroft and Arden Bank provide challenging yet sporting shooting over open ground, offering Guns ample opportunity to select their birds and enjoy some of the finest sport Yorkshire has to offer.
The Arden Beat is located on the Hawnby Estate, on the edge of the North York Moors, just 15 minutes from Helmsley. The estate is easily accessible by road, with York approximately one hour away and Thirsk railway station around 40 minutes from the shoot.
The team will meet at the shoot lodge for breakfast before departing for the first drive at 10:00am. The day consists of four drives, with traditional elevenses served in the field following the second drive. Shooting concludes in the afternoon, with the team returning to the lodge at approximately 3:00pm to enjoy a three-course meal and reflect on the day's sport.
The Owl at Hawnby is a welcoming country inn situated in the heart of the estate, offering comfortable accommodation, excellent food and a relaxed atmosphere, making it an ideal base for the shoot.
