Duredon Farmhouse
A newly constructed country house and the perfect retreat for entertaining private groups of up to 16 people.
Duredon was built in the proportions and on the footprint of a previous house, one of several farmhouses around Simonsbath, built by the estate’s former owner, the pioneering nineteenth century farming entrepreneur, John Knight.
Completed in late 2022, the architecture and interior design was commended in the Georgian Group Awards 2022 (Giles Worsley award for a new building in the spirit of the Georgian age).
The main house has 6 luxurious and very comfortable en-suite bedrooms, with a further 3 bedrooms in the renovated stables across the courtyard. Each guest room is individually decorated; some have four-poster beds, and all have deep baths, good showers and plenty of hot water. The ground floor consists of a series of rooms perfect for entertaining guests with marvellous views out over the moors and River Barle valley.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Guests can enjoy activities such as walking, biking, shooting, horseback riding, and wild swimming in scenic spots like Pinkery Pond. Nearby landmarks include the historic Tarr Steps, Cow Castle hill fort, and the beautiful Doone Valley.
TRAVEL
The house is situated just outside the remote village of Simonsbath, high above the upper reaches of the River Barle and surrounded by miles of magical moorland.
KEY INFO
Duredon is situated at the heart of the Exmoor Forest Estate, a traditional country estate and organic farm producing native breed, grass-fed beef and lamb, and home to several hundred red deer.
